Shortly after hurricane Hugo struck the Carolina coast in 1989, the owners of an old historic inn at Pawleys Island, SC counted their blessings that the damage was not extensive to the old inn and vowed to create a door and window cover that was suitable for their situation. The coverings needed to be transparent so guests would not want to leave until ordered to do so. The protectors needed to attach quickly and the attaching mechanism could not be unsightly thereby preserving the aesthetics of the historic structure. The covers would have to withstand the ultimate wind velocity that nature could produce and not fail. Finally, because the inn owners are frugal people, the covers had to be low in cost.

After several years the HurriSAFE® Hurricane Covering System was developed that met and exceeded the inn owners’ requirements.

The system is available to owners of properties at risk who wish to protect their property from high wind velocities without sacrificing the aesthetics of their buildings, interrupting their rental income until the last possible moment or spending a great deal of money.
